Why do you need a professional to build your tiny house?

We know that the possibility of building one’s own home has increased the interest in the movement, particularly for tiny houses on wheels. Tiny houses on wheels are often an alternative to living in an RV. However, the purpose of building a tiny house is for it to last as long as a traditional home.
Professionals have more knowledge and more research on the traditional building techniques and a better understanding of the materials and their qualities, helping you get the look and feel of a traditional house in a small space.
Professionals can also help you with the plans, the setup, and the design of your tiny house. Here at Di-Cass Construction we offer design and building services with a one on one consultation where we will talk about your needs, your preferences, materials, costs and options.

We want to build the perfect, forever tiny house of your dreams!

Let us build your tiny house

The tiny house movement or “small house movement” is an architectural and social movement that advocates living simply in small homes.

The average house size in the United States has grown from 1,780 square feet in 1978 to 2,662 square feet in 2013. On the other hand, the size of an average family has decreased.

These over sized houses are now in fashion because people are more interested in increased material wealth and prestige.

The small house movement is trying to return houses to less than 1,000 square feet. Frequently the distinction is made between small (between 400 square feet and 1,000 square feet ), and tiny houses (less than 400 square feet with some as small as 80 square feet).

Sarah Susanka is known to be the creator of this movement with the publication of “The Not So Big House” in 1997, but the first mention of Tiny Houses was in 1987 by Lester Walker in a book named ″Tiny Houses″.

Tiny houses on wheels were popularized by Jay Shafer, a Tiny House enthusiast and user, who designed and lived in a 96 sq. ft house and was the founder of Tumbleweed Tiny House Company. He also founded Small House Society.

After natural disaster Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Marianne Cusato developed Katrina Cottages, which start at 308 square feet and are a great alternative to FEMA trailers. Though these were created to provide a pleasant solution to a disaster zone, these houses were so popular that Cusato got the attention of resort developers and the general public.

After the real-estate crisis in 2007 and 2008, the small house movement gained followers due to its attractive approach to living an affordable and ecologically friendly life. Tiny houses started to grow as additional on-property housing for aging relatives or returning children, as home offices, or as guest houses.

The price for a Tiny house in 2015 ranged from $20,000 to $50,000. The price of building a Tiny house has increased to $30,000 to $70,000 in the last 4 years for houses built with high-end materials.

Small and tiny houses have also captured the attention of the media with documentaries and television series such as Tiny House Nation, in 2014 and Tiny House Hunters. The possibility of building a Tiny House by yourself has also fueled the movement, but in turn has brought some problems to the movement.

This is why after more than a year of research, Di-Cass Construction with more that 25 years of experience as general contractors, is ready to be part of this movement. We are offering the best quality Tiny House building service, with custom designs made to order, making sure it fits your needs and adjusts well to the Texas Weather.

Can I finance my Tiny House?

Can I finance my Tiny House?

This is one of the main concerns of people who are looking at moving into a Tiny House.

When you start researching tiny houses you come across many questions about what a tiny house is.  It’s not an RV and it’s not a house.  It’s so new and innovative that not even banks know how to handle them. However, there is a loophole in the “Custom Recreational Vehicle” category that if your financial institution is smart enough to understand, should allow them to move forward with your loan.

There is also a great source online for financing if you have a credit score above 620. The website is called Tiny House Lending you can click on the following link: http://www.tinyhouselending.com

You can borrow up to $50,000 and they specialize in Tiny House financing.

Of course there is always the option of getting a 2nd mortgage on your house if you are looking to sell it and pay it off, or you could get some money out of the equity of your home, or even get a loan from your rich uncle.

What’s most important is that if you’re committed to the Tiny House way of living there is always a solution to getting one.
